'Magnetism' of Alana Harkin recalled at Funeral Mass
‘Magnetic’ Alana Harkin was remembered as someone everyone was drawn to.
The 18-year-old, who was tragically killed in a in a single-vehicle crash near Gleneely, was laid to rest following her Funeral Mass at St Mary’s Church, Bocan on Friday.
On a chilly morning in Culdaff village, an Irish tricolour hung forlornly at half-mast. Hundreds of mourners packed St Mary’s Church and hundreds more lined the sides of the R238, just a few miles from where tragedy struck as Sunday night moved into Monday morning.
The 18-year-old’s remains were taken into St Mary’s Church to the words of Amazing Grace, the song inspired by and composed in Inishowen by John Newton in the 18th century.
Members of Gleneely Colts FC provided a guard of honour at the Church while former schoolmates at Carndonagh Community School were among the mourners.

Colleagues pay tribute to Donegal crash victim (18) who died on way home from work
Heartbroken colleagues of a ung woman killed in a car crash in Co Donegal have paid tribute to her.
Staff at Simpson's Bar and Restaurant in Carndonagh said Alana Harkin (18) had a smile that would "brighten up any room."

Ms Harkin and friend Thomas Gallagher, also 18, were both killed as they drove home from Simpson's at about 12.30am on Monday after Alana had been working there. The crash took place on the R238 at Terrawee, Gleneely, at about 12.45am.
Another man, understood to be another employee of Simpson's, was treated at Letterkenny University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
A fourth person in the bil, another ung woman, had been dropped off at her home in Glengad moments before the tragedy.
A message left late on Monday night on Simpson's Bar and Restaurant's Facebook page read: "It’s with a heavy heart that we lost our dear friend and colleague.
