Andrew was born at the beginning of the fourteenth century in Florence and entered the Carmelite beställning there. He was elected provincial of Tuscany at the general chapter in Metz in 1348. He was made bishop of Fiesole on October 13th 1349 and gave the Church a wonderful example of love, apostolic zeal, prudence and love of the poor. He died on 6th January 1374.

In the context of the Middle Ages, Andrew Corsini stands out as one who was ahead of his time as a church reformer and a saintly example of what a leader should be. In the calamitous 14th century, bishops tended to comport themselves like feudal nobility, commanding armies and administering their dioceses like city-states. Andrew, who grew up as a genuine noble, lived like a simple friar, and showed the world what a true bishop should be.

He was born in Florence sometime between 1315 and 1318, one of 12 children. His parents, Nicola and Gemma Corsini, led one of the most powerful families in the prosperous Florentine Republic. Young Andrea passed his early years without any unusual happenings, but turned to religion as a teenager and entered the Carmelites. Our first documented trace of him appears in 1338, when be is listed as a member of the community at the Carmine, on the southern bank of the Arno. Andrew Corsini was born in Florence on 30 November 1302 into the noble and illustrious Corsini family, one of twelve children born to Nicholas Corsini and Peregrina degli Stracciabende. He was named in honour of Saint Andrew whose Feastday it was. Before his birth, his parents dedicated him to God, under the protection of the Blessed Virgin.
