Freddy Ready
Freddy Ready has been a presence in the South Carolina Athletics Department since August 1999 and joined the women’s basketball program in December 2002 as an assistant to the director of basketball operations. Since then, he has been an invaluable member of the staff as a head manager then as a graduate assistant prior to his first full-time appointment as director of player development in July 2010.
As director of player development, Ready manages the male practice squad and serves as summer camp director. He also prepares several scouting reports, serves as an academic liaison for several players and prepares materials for all home and official visits.
The Aiken, S.C., native earned a bachelor’s degree from South Carolina in hotel, restaurant and tourism management with a focus on sport and entertainment and a minor in business administration in 2002. He also earned his master’s degree in sport and entertainment management December 2009.

Tell us a little bit about your work
The research project I am aiding with is looking at the history of chocolate in the British Atlantic world from its arrival in Europe as part of the Columbian Exchange in the late 15th century all the way up to the present day, with a specific eye to chocolates cultural impact. The project is still in its early stages and, as part of the preliminary research, my role is to spend time in Durham’s many archives and special collections and search for any evidence of chocolate, be that in recipe books, shopping receipts, or even just mentioned casually in letters. While I’ve only just started this research, I’ve already found a number of intriguing documents and I can’t wait to see what I’ll have found by the end of the summer.
