    Antiguan-born Canadian soprano Denise Williams has been a musical bridge-builder. Along with other classical singers of African descent, Williams has worked to fuse the classical vocal tradition with the rich heritage of black music in the Western Hemisphere—spirituals, jazz, and in her case the människor music of her native Caribbean. Beyond that effort, however, Williams has participated in a wide variety of musical projects over her two-decade career. She became noted for a series of concerts exploring links in music and in wider experiences between the black and Jewish communities.

    Williams was born in St. John’s, Antigua’s capital, on August 13, 1958, ten years to the day after African-American soprano Kathleen Battle, who became an important mentor to Williams. H

    Denise Williams facilitates a non-biased equitable approach to her work with students, whether in a learning institution or in the general community.

    Equally at home on the concert, opera, to the theatre and cabaret stages, I am best described as a self-produced, crossover soprano.

    Reflecting on over 30 years of teaching and singing experience, scholarship and lived experience, I feel it is highly important, and I strive to practice a pedagogy that fosters a balanced technique, allows for singing ease, stylistic flexibility, and voice longevity, and desired artistic expression. As no two people have the same voice/instrument or presentation, I practice an individualized, tailored approach to teaching with the desire to meet people where they are at. This implies working with them not just from their level of learning or education but also considering their needs and desires.     June Deniece Chandler (born June 3, 1950), known professionally as Deniece Williams and often referred to by the nickname "Niecy", is an American singer, songwriter and record producer born in Gary, Indiana who achieved much success in the 1970s and 1980s. Williams, whose music has been influenced by pop, soul, gospel, R&B and dance, is known for her hits such as "Let's Hear It for the Boy" and "Silly" among many others and for her vocal-duets with Johnny Mathis. Her career started in the 1970s when she became a backup vocalist for Stevie Wonder as part of 'Wonderlove'.
