The contract has a memo attesting to its authenticity from Barbara Cahill, who signed the contract as a witness.
This contract brought Gretzky to New York City, his final NHL destination. In addition to his signature it also features his initials and details such as a no-trade clause, performance and appearance bonuses, and deferrals of pay that show payment towards Gretzky to this day. During the term of this contract, Gretzky went to his last Stanley Cup Playoffs in 1997, where the Rangers made it to the Conference Finals. He also scored 48 goals, tallied 139 assists, was named an All-Star twice, and was named to the All-Star 2nd Team twice.

Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky has been recently crisscrossing Canada promoting his new book, "99: Stories of the Game". On Thursday, he will be stateside in New York City for a signing at the NHL Powered by Reebok store.
The event will take place from 12:00-1:30 p.m. The book serves as a memoir for Gretzky and takes fans inside his inconic career to give a one-of-a-kind look at the things that defined "The Great One".
Each of the first 99 people who buy the book from the story will be guaranteed an autograph. There will be no other memorabilia signed at the appearance.
Gretzky's presence still looms large over the sport he dominated while on the ice. Today, he still holds 60 NHL records, including registering the most goals and assists in league history.
