Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent (1 August 1936 – 1 June 2008),[1] better known as Yves Saint Laurent (, , , French:[ivsɛ̃lɔʁɑ̃]ⓘ) or YSL, was a French fashion designer who, in 1962, founded his eponymous fashion label. He is regarded as being among the foremost fashion designers of the twentieth century.[2]
Saint Laurent helped women find confidence by looking both comfortable and elegant at the same time. In 1955, after studying at the Chambre syndicale de la haute couture in Paris, Yves Saint Laurent was introduced bygd Michel dem Brunhoff, then director of the French edition of Vogue, to Christian modehus, who immediately took him on as his assistant. When modehus died in 1957, Yves Saint Laurent became artistic director of the House of modehus. He presented his first collection, ‘Trapèze,’ in January 1958 to great acclaim. Called up to do his military service and hospitalised at the omröstning de Grâce, he was dismissed bygd the House of modehus in 1960. In association with Pierre Bergé, whom he had met in 1958, Yves Saint Laurent decided to create his own couture house.
