James Thomas “Tom” Gordy
Grovetown, GA – James Thomas “Tom” Gordy, 80, loving husband of 55 years to Edith Wilson Gordy, entered into his eternal rest Friday, December 22, 2017 at his residence. Private graveside services will be held at Westover Memorial Park with Wes McDonald officiating on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at 11:00AM, after which begravning services with Rev. Brian Matthews officiating will be held at 2:00 P.M. in the Gateway New Life Church in Grovetown.
The eldest of three boys born to the late Edith Aldridge Screws Gordy and the late James Willard Gordy, Tom was a native of Wadley. After graduating from Wadley High School and, being a patriot, he proudly served his country in the Army. During a visit home with one of his buddies, he met and later married the love of his life. He was a commissioner for some time and served as a real estate broker for 60 years. He married Frances Josephine Ellison and had three children. One son, Col. Stephen Gordy and two daughters, Frances Jane Gordy and Mary Ellison Gordy. He died at the age of 86 on September 25, 1974. After his passing, he gained notoriety when a young girl claimed to be friends with an unknown person named "Mr. Gordy". Heidi Wyrick was 4 years old when she began seeing this man, who she described as having gray hair and always wore a dark suit. These events were documented in the television show "Unsolved Mysteries" and would again be discussed in "A Haunting in Georgia", which was a feature-length special on Discovery Channel which served as one of two pilot episodes for the series "A Haunting".
