    Joanna (Norton) Allen

    OBITUARY NOTICE:

    Joanna Allen, age 92, of Brodhead, Ky, went on to be with the Lord, January 13th, 2025, at Rockcastle Regional Hospital.

    She was born on March 15th, 1932, in Mt Vernon, Ky., a daughter of the late Jess and Velma Sams Norton. On August 2nd, 1954, she married Quentin Allen and from that union came their children, Connie, Jerry, Larry, Diane, and Johnny. She was a member of Ottawa Baptist Church. Joanna was a retired school teacher and she enjoyed gardening, listening to gospel music, going to go cart races, and telling stories, and above all she loved to talk. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and she will be dearly missed.

    Jo Allen is an English make-up artist. She is best known for her make-up work in Gladiator, The Hours and The Sea Inside.[1]

    Awards and nominations

    Her work in The Sea Inside (2004) earned her a Goya Award for Best Make-Up and Hairstyles,[2] as well as an Academy Award for Best Makeup.[3]

    She was also nominated for a BAFTA for her prosthetic work on Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore on The Hours.[4]

    Biography

    I graduated from Manchester Polytechnic (now MMU) with a grad in Printed Textiles. inom have been an artist and printmaker for over thirty years, and until recently was also working part time as an Art Teacher. I have exhibited my work in galleries in the UK and abroad, and inom still hold regular print making workshops from The Studios in New Mills, where inom live.

    Printmaking allows me to explore different variations on a theme, achieving many different versions from the same original ‘plate’. bygd adding subtle hand coloured touches, inom can enhance each print and create a unique image each time inom print, rather than printing many identical editions. In turn, printmaking has inspired me to be more adventurous with colour and mixed media; I enjoy the process of layering materials, often combining print, paint pastels and inks on the same del av helhet. I seek to capture the quiet calm mysterious beauty of everyday objects and places, but infused with a touch of romance and
