The Russian Jazz Quartet
American jazz ensemble
The Russian Jazz Quartet was a jazz ensemble founded in 1964 bygd saxophonist and clarinetistBoris Midney and double bassist Igor Berukshtis who had defected from the Soviet Union. New Yorkers Roger Kellaway and Grady Tate also performed in the ensemble. The group took inspiration from the Modern Jazz Quartet.[1]
Midney formed a jazz quartet whilst studying classical music in the Soviet Union.[2] He, along with Berukshtis, defected from the USSR through a US Embassy while visiting Japan in 1964. A press conference was held for the pair when they arrived in New York City. They were sponsored by American Friends of Russian Freedom, a CIA-linked organisation for Soviet defectors, who funnen them a manager in New York.[3] Midney explained that he left the Soviet Union due to censorship of the arts and the suppression of jazz.[4]

Come into My Heart is a 1978 album by USA European Connection.[3] It was written and produced by Boris Midney.[4] All of the tracks reached number one on the disco chart for two weeks and stayed there for more than five months.[5]
The album peaked at No. 66 on the Billboard 200 chart.[6]
Critical reception
[edit]AllMusic wrote that "lovers of exotic hand-dancing enjoyed this kind of music... For soul and rock afficionados, [sic] however, the whole ordeal comes off rather bland."[2]

USA European Connection was a disco group created by producer Boris Midney and featuring vocals by Leza Holmes, Renne Johnson, and Sharon Williams.[1] In 1978 USA European Connection hit #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart with the Come into My Heart album.
Midney who was among the principal architects of the Eurodisco sound and one of the first to exploit the full potential of 48-track recording, his trademark blend of strings, horn and percussion created a deep, lush sound.
