It is very unsettling to have a conversation with someone for the first time, just before they are about to be killed. A few weeks ago, I tried to get in touch with a man named Robert Pruett. A friend of his wrote back with an address, adding: “You might not want to lose too much time.” She told me that this upcoming Thursday evening, the 12th, Robert is scheduled to be executed by the State of Texas.
