CARMINE Famiglietti’s struggle with weight has been a source of embarrassment and concern for years.
But it was also the inspiration for a film project the 37-year-old Queens native said changed his life. And he hopes his very personal on-camera experience will motivate others who are only able to find comfort and solace in food.

“Lbs.” opens Friday at the Village East theater in Manhattan. Famiglietti plays the role of Neil Perota, a young Brooklyn man whose obesity has caused heartache and serious health problems.
The film provides an unflinching look at Perota’s battles with food addiction and the lengths he is willing to go to lose the weight.
He isolates himself in an upstate New York trailer – miles from friends and family – and starts a weight-loss program in an effort to save his life.
