Ernesto “Che” Guevara was a revolutionary, and military strategist from Argentina. His stylised face has become a widespread emblem of revolution. He was a significant figure in the Cuban Revolution.
Guevara was born in Argentina in and enrolled at the University of Buenos Aires to study medicine in During his studies, he undertook two motorcycle trips through Latin America, one in and one in These tours were extremely important in the development of his socialist ideology as throughout these trips he saw the poor working conditions across the continent, especially for Chilean miners, and poverty in rural areas.

Guerrillero Heroico ("Heroic Guerrilla Fighter") is a photograph of Argentine revolutionary Che Guevara taken by Alberto Korda. It was captured on March 5, , in Havana, Cuba, at a memorial service for victims of the La Coubre explosion. By the end of the s, the image, in conjunction with Guevara's subsequent actions and eventual execution, helped solidify the leader as a cultural icon.[2] Korda has said that at the moment he shot the picture, he was drawn to Guevara's facial expression, which showed "absolute implacability"[3] as well as anger and pain.[4] Years later, Korda would say that the photograph showed Che's firm and stoical character.[5] Guevara was 31 years old at the time the photograph was taken.
